In a pot

This afternoon the niblit and I went to the medium Mason's school to do a bit of dyeing.

I get the previlige of playing with kindergarteners and dye.  What fun!

We started off by planning our soon-to-be dyed skeins with watercolor paints in just the colors of red, yellow, blue, and green.  With these 4 paints, the children experimented in mixing colors (even though they have been studying this) and how their colors were going to be ordered.  Once it was their turn, they got to dye it up!  It was interesting to me which child followed their plan and which child didn't.

My child followed his plan.  I had to laugh at that since he is N O T that type of child.  I guess he has seen mama do this waaayy too many times!

By the 10th child, we were done and it was time to go.  I was pleased at the lack of mess and how well they turned out!  I'm excited for them to see.  Next we use the skeins for finger knitting and then onto needle knitting.

**
Completely unrelated to the above commentary on knitting, but I've found an awesome pizza crust.  Pizza crust is one of those things that I've failed at more times than I can count!  Last night we had a summer pesto and alfredo pizza and tonight was a bbq cowboy pizza.  Yes, the crust is that good!  Make it! <--link

finished

Well.  Hello there.

I've been getting "flack" about not keeping up on the happenings over here.

We've finished Christmas.  It was great.  It was long.  We are just now recovered.

We've finished our kitchen remodel.  I'm so happy that it is done.

I finished a sweater.  And almost knee socks.  Both a feat for me.

I've n o t finished a lot of things.

The littlest niblit of mine is not napping.  Not napping niblit makes for a long day for mama.  L o n g days.

We are getting by though.

Dressing in layers of wool and snow pants - off "hiking" (his new favorite word next to Happy Birthday) through the woods and trespassing where ever we feel we need to go.

I'll try and do better here.  I have ideas all the time but then the smallest one darts off through the brush like a rabbit and the chase is on.  Maybe tomorrow I say :)

Almost there

Our kitchen is almost there.

I have a functional sink.  At the moment it is fun to wash dishes in it.

I should have it all done on Friday.

Minus the light and paint. The light will happen this week one way or another.

We changed a textile plan this week from marble back splash (that was discontinued) to bead board.

Why bead board wasn't the original plan is a mystery -- as almost every "inspiring" kitchen I've pinned  on Pinterest has it.  I'm looking forward to painting it this weekend.

Hurry up Friday!

Annual Train Ride with Santa

With Thanksgiving bringing us thanks for all the blessings we have and a family wide case of the stomach flu, we are ready to bring on the next holiday season.

The house is almost trimmed.

The kitchen is "almost" (and I emphasize the air quotes) done.  Tomorrow is "supposed" to be the finishing day minus the backsplash.

The Nutcracker ballet was seen and reported as "perfect", "amazing", and "awesome". Now the middle boy is pirouetting around the house (more than usual).

The Santa Train is checked off our list.

The Santa train is always fun.  This year the big boys were very honest in that they knew this was not the "real" Santa.  I could tell that it wasn't as magical as it was before but nonetheless, it was fun!

Reagan reported that he'd like Lego's, Mason would like a surprise, and Logan would like Santa to leave his seat and then maybe bring him a tractor, combine, and wagon.

this moment

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

As of late

:: we are trying to settle into the new normal of being inside more, switching to earlier dinners, quiet nights, and warmth.  This year my trio did not make the time change easily.

:: the nebulizer has made its reappearance by the chair.  Last night was scary for my littlest bean.  I was thankful that Nathan was home as I was worried we'd have to make an appearance at the ER.  It has been a while since we've visited.

::Art supplies seem to be creeping all over the house.  Time to make a list and see what is needed for those quiet weekends.

::kitchen construction was delayed a week.  It is amazing how hard it is to keep it together when your kitchen is dismantled.  I'm not looking forward to next week when I have to manage eating whole and healthy with only a microwave, oven, and laundry room sink.

:: the smallest of the trio has had lots of tough moments this week.  We've been spotted hiking all over as time outside seems to be his cure all.  We took our time and strolled until he couldn't go any further - feeling things all along the way.  The moss is amazing in the woods right now.  I'm glad he still loves being carried on my back - we might still be stuck out there.
