It is hot

It is hot.  Humid. Buggy.

The past three days were spent at my parent's house.  With Nathan gone again for the majority of the week, we needed to escape!  Nana and Pop's house is always fun.  We spent our few days lounging, swimming, and riding!  I got to catch up on 6 episodes of True Blood and finish a pair of scrappy longies (I'll post those later).

I didn't pack the appropriate riding gear for my boys.  In this oppressive heat, I tend not to think about boots and jeans.  We had to improvise on the apparel.  It was a fast ride anyway with the big bugs coming out and the hot, humid air.

Reagan rode his pony, Dixie.  We are hoping soon to have Reagan riding all by himself.  He reminds us often that he needs to do it all by himself.

Then it was time for Mason to ride. Mason isn't as horse nuts as Reagan is.  Reagan has a special thing with animals.  Mason...not so much.  He wants to go fast. Like a motorcycle. Plus he would rather ride the mower with Pop and spread manure.  Fun times.

But it was his first ride.
So I handed my big camera over to Reagan and politely reminded him that his precious life depends on him not dropping it in a pile of poo so I could hang on to Mason if needed a quick route off. He did a pretty good job taking pictures of his little bro.

"Look broder...do you see me?  Do you see me like you?  Brodderrr!"

A Day In Pictures

Since it is Wednesday and I was up almost the entire night with more than one of my children, I think a day in pictures is in order.  Keep me extra busy!

Yesterday ended for me at 11:30 p.m.  and today began at 2:34 a.m....then...

A favoite meal...

The most requested meal in my house, from all of my boys, is Turkey Meatballs.  Since I typed this out for a dear friend, I thought I would go ahead and post it!  This is so easy.  It also is a great make ahead meal.  I try to always have the ingredients on hand and a few already made waiting for me in freezer bags.  You can make it in a crock-pot too!  Woot!

Turkey Meatballs
1 chub ground turkey                                                         1 pkg. Mozzarella cheese
1 chub ground turkey sausage                                            1 15 oz. can/jar pizza sauce (or two)
1 pkg. Good Seasonings Italian Dressing Mix                   1/2 stick of butter
1 egg                                                                                    breadcrumbs - 1/2 can

Skillet:
Mix meats, Italian seasoning, and egg. .  Add breadcrumbs until you have the consistency of meatloaf. Shape into meatballs and cook on skillet.   Once cooked, add pizza sauce and serve with or w/out cheese.

Crockpot:
Follow above directions omitting skillet cooking.
Spray crockpot with non-stick spray.  Add 4 Tbsp. of pizza sauce.  Add one layer of meatballs. Place a layer of cheese.  Repeat the process until all meatballs and cheese are used.  Poor rest of pizza sauce on the top layer.  Cover with a layer of breadcrumbs.  Cut 1/2 stick of butter into pats and place evenly on top of breadcrumb layer.  Cook at least 4 hours or until meatballs are fully cooked.

Parking

No, not that kind!

I thought I would attempt to blog every day this week.  No real reason-just thought I would do a little self challenge!

Today Mason had his annual 'well baby' check up.  He is a perfectly healthy three year old.  After his appointment and his vaccination (something no one likes), we headed to the park.  Nathan is gone this entire week (again) but he was able to go with us for an hour before his departure.

A  r.a.r.e. picture of me.  I hate...no loathe having my picture taken.  But I sucked it up in the name of a cute baby on my lap.  What is up with his tongue!  I have quite a few pics of him today with it hanging out.  I know it was hot, but he didn't need to pant!
It was really hot and humid.  This was at 9:30 in the morning.  Can you see that sweat!

The boys played hard.  They met a little girl who became their little tag-along friend.  It was nice for them to practice being a gentleman and have her go first, help her up the stairs, and include her.  Something we've been reading about and talking about at our nightly meal.

Look at those cheeks!  You should see his other set.  Equally as cute :)

WIP Wednesday

Wednesday is almost over but I thought I would do a quick WIP post.

I'm just about to finish the overalls I've been working on what seems like for-ev-errrrr!  They are on Mountain Meadow wool.  I get about 5.2sts per inch so the knitting is slow!!

I had to frog my hat I was working on last week.  The orange Snapdragon.  I didn't do enough increases on row something and I just couldn't get it right without totally ripping it out. So I did.  And then I decided it was a bit fussy.  I'm such a plain Jane kind of gal that it was a bit much for me.  This is for a dear love who believes her head might be on the large side so it might have been a good UGH!  I think I'll do something new now-a very belated birthday present!

Last on theWIP list is an easy-no-thinking-involved felted bowl.  Believe it or not, it is my first "on purpose" felting project.  I hope to use it to hold some shells and other more natural play toys.  I worked on it while my DH and I watch Avatar.  Have you seen that?  Wow.  Such creativity.  We were in awe at the scope of this film.  It has been a long time that something wasn't a copy, remake, or from a book.  Rather refreshing!

What is everyone else up to? :)

WIP Wednesday

I've been clicking away lately simultaneously working on a few knits.  I don't get to knit as much as I would like (that is far from the truth as every obsessive knitter knows) but I am slowly plodding along.  With Nathan gone (so much) with work, I just have a lot to do!  And then I have those three loves of my life to "do" too!  Thus, my current WIP's-overalls with the custom yarn I posted a while back and a Snapdragon Tam for a dear person.
Happy crafting!  Yay!  It is Wednesday! What is on your plate?

A few finished knits

I finally have some things off the needles that have been sitting around here waiting to be properly blogged.  Not that anyone really cares, but in my little world, I pretend it does lol.

First off is a kerchief that I worked on over my vacation. I dyed the fiber and then had a spinner, Laura from Splendor of Fiber spin it for me.  Perfect mindless knitting.  I started with the cast on from the Boneyard pattern on Ravelry and went from there. About every 3 inches of knitting I did a new stitch row...yo, garter, seed and then repeated them.  For increases I used M1B and KFB.  I blocked using blocking wires for the first time and I am sold on those. I have this set and it was very easy to use.  It really pulled and placed the handspun yarn to make a lovely drape. I made this with no one in mind.  I think I'll have to keep it or at least make another for me with the other skein I have. It is so soft and I personally am a big fan of wool around the neck.

I also finished a cowl for a cowl swap I am participating in.  The person who this is for has an extensive wool collection and I couldn't easily pick a yarn for her.  I really wanted to do a buffalo or a yak yarn but I needed to feel it before I shelled out $60 for a few ounces.  I settled with a lovely yarn from Lorna Laces.  It is a silk/wool blend, a base that I too dye, and is super soft and lovely.  I hope she likes it.
The pattern I used was the Fern Neckwarmer found on Ravelry.

Last off my needles, thanks to hours in the car during the holiday weekend, is the Barn Owl longies for my customer C in Norway.

A whole lot in a small amount of time

I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July weekend and are recovering from all your events.  Our weekend wasn't short on travels and parties.

Every 4th of July weekend, Nathan's family has a reunion.  This year it was held at the farm (Nathan's parents).  We made a quick trip down as Nathan was gone all week on business and will be gone again this week as well.  Farm time is always fun for the boys.  The weather was beautiful and it lead to lots of fresh, farm air (well mostly fresh with cattle not too far away).

We left the reunion to go to a good friend's house for fireworks, fun and food.  Reagan has decided he would like to live there now.  It was so much fun and we are really glad we made it all work in one day.

Then on the 4th, Reagan had a chance to borrow a horse for a lead-line class. His regular show horse is taking a break and is at my parent's house and is currently muddy and grass-pot bellied.  He'll start back on him this winter.  There was a horse already at the Region 11 Arabian Horse Show in our show barn that was child safe so he got to ride him!  He had so much fun. I love to watch him with horses.  He loves it and already has such a knack for it.
Walking with Pop up to the area.
It is hard work being a cowboy.  Hydration is a must

Looking at his adoring fan club.

 "Hi Mom"
They call out the children in numerical order.  He was the lowest number and was called first.  He now firmly believes that he "won" the class...even though they all got blue ribbons!  He even counted the line up - twice- to see how many he beat.

Getting ready for the victory pass :)
