I just really love to knit

There is no doubt about it.  I love to knit.  I'm pretty obsessed with it.  I love to sit and think and work wool with my needles.  Sometimes I like what I am making and sometimes I don't.  In the end though, I can not beat the sense of accomplishment, no matter how small or repetitive, it is to finish something that started out as string.

When knitting for others or myself, there are some items that just speak more to me.  Today, I put my little Logan in a sweater I made for him well before he was born.  I loved making the sweater.  I love the pattern, Baby Surprise Jacket, and even more the pattern maker.  But today, while sitting in church, lovingly petting him and cooing to him while I listened to his squeaks and grunts, my mind drifted to when I made this.  My mind often drifts while in the silence of peace at church, I really can not help it.  When I made this sweater, I specifically remember all of the places I sat while I made it. A big chunk was done by my boys' Geotown and while listening to them create the stories to go with their trains. Another chunk would have been done waiting for the Dr. at one of the never ending OB appointments.  The last chunk was on the couch late at night while I tried to knit in the rhythm of Logan's kicks or hiccups (that always began at 11 p.m. -without fail).   At all the places I worked on this, I thought of him. How would he look?  Smell?  Feel?  How would his personality be? Like Reagan or Mason or completely his own (which it is, thankfully).

Knitting is special.  It can be so rhythmic and centering and perfect for reflecting or hoping.  My husband thinks I'm a loon for commenting on how I love this sweater on him today.  I bet I've said it or petted him in it way too many times for a sane person.  You can't but help love something you made out of love that is on someone you love so much.

4 hours of sleep...

Just a little laugh of the day...this is how my little corner of "heaven" looks right now. 4 hours of sleep with an uncommonly fussy baby plus having to pump like a dairy cow makes for a mommy who really doesn't "care" how the toys look at the moment. Oh and yes, my 4 year old isn't dressed yet. And it is 3 in the afternoon. I did get my not-taking-a-nap 2 year old dressed and the baby has been redressed at least 3 times so I think I even it out. And yes, he is still tattooed from a party on Saturday. Strike me down if I scrub that off.

ahhh. Why is it that the only people who want to sleep are the ones who are not supposed to grow anymore?

Where has my time gone!

I really have the intention to blog more as I find it kinda fun to write down what has been going on but we have been so busy that sitting down to type something out has been put to the last of the list!

We have been exceptionally busy with trying to get baby Logan well. Since he has been home, we have been to 9 doctor's appointments in two weeks! With having to travel at least 30 min. each way, usually with 2 other kids in tow, has been exhausting to say the least! This week we only have two and they are just to make sure everything is working rather than frantically trying to "fix" something for him! To make a long story short, Logan was not thriving nursing. He was loosing way too much weight and became too weak to even try and nurse. Pair that with a painfully botched circumcision (with repairs having to be stitched and cauterized) and the previous birth trauma, life was not good for my little man. Luckily we have enough medical professionals around to find out what was wrong and how to make him better. It has been decided that Logan has a "lock jaw" or a jaw that is unable to open wide enough to nurse. This means that mommy gets to pump to feed him from a bottle and that therapy for later life is certainly needed. Now that it is settled and he is eating well, he has made leaps in bounds in a week. His color is better, his circ. is healing, and he is a great calm baby. We are very blessed that of all of the set backs he has had in his 24 days of life that we are finally on our way to a normal daily life.

With in these last two weeks, we've tried to finish as many projects as we could! Reagan and I finally finished our recycled crayon activity. We plan to place the remade crayons in Easter eggs for his class exchange and give some to his very 'bestest; boyfriend Alaric. We also finished our play silks for pretend play. We had fun trying to figure out how to make a cape look like fire for our special friend who is addicted to all things firefighter. He is looking forward to sending them in the mail as a special surprise.

And finally, I finished some partially completed projects for a stocking. I did a new colorway based on some beautiful yarn from Anna Maria in her Playground collection. I can't wait to find some more time to work on new fibers and new colorways. I'm going to keep one for myself and see if I can get a sweater done for Easter or for Logan's baptism.

Tree Frog Knits stocks this Wednesday night. Sarah and I have some beautiful knits and delicious yarns if you need a little spring in your yarn collection!

A long awaited welcome!

On Thursday, Feb. 25, at 8:00 to be exact, I was reading the epic adventures of Tarzan to the crew. I suddenly felt the tightest sensation that made me break into a sweat and say "oww". This continued here and there through out the night. By morning, I knew something was not right as it was more than Logan kicking the tar out of me. I was checked into Labor and Delivery and lo and behold, I was in labor. Finally, around 3:00 the contractions became stronger and more steady and I was scheduled for a c-section that night. This was not in my plans yet. I had things to do at home...projects left unfinished, laundry to be done, meals to plan, boys to love on.

Logan entered the world at 6:00 on the dot. He was an excellent crier and my end of the deal went pretty smooth (not counting the hour it took them to figure out what pain killers to use. Yes, it really hurts after a c-section). We were moved into our rooms and it was late and all were tired as most new parents are on the big day.

Not 18 hours later, after the boys finally got to meet this mysterious thing that made mommy's tummy do hilarious things, Logan was moved to the NICU. Luckily a nurse did not like the noises he was making in his lungs and took him right away.

The rest of the story goes surprisingly, exactly, terrifyingly like Mason's story did. He had a Pneumothorax that was large enough to have a chest tube; my poor baby had to have a tube in his chest. He also had to be on oxygen, under bilirubin lights, take antibiotics for pneumonia, and be exposed to countless x-rays, and come home with a battle wound.

After a long and exhausting week of mommy being away from home, our family needing help from all directions, and having to use untold amounts of patience, baby Logan got to come home 8 days after being born. 8 days in a life of a newborn doesn't seem like a long time...but to our family, it was an eternity of a week.

We look forward to starting our family of 5 with no more hiccups.
